Within a few short weeks the Ashbrook Scholars will return to campus, reinvigorating the pulse of the Ashbrook Center. While it is important to have a few weeks during the year for reading and research, our ultimate purpose is to enhance the education and personal development of the Scholars. Toward that end, we have instituted the Ashbrook Colloquium, an extensive series of discussions on a comprehensive list of topics. Colloquium guests will include G. William Benz, President of Ashland University, and noted Jefferson scholar David Mayer, author of The Constitutional Thought of Thomas Jefferson, as well as William B. Allen, Dean of James Madison College of Michigan State University, and renowned scholar on George Washington. The public is welcome to attend the Ashbrook Colloquium.

Once again, the Ashbrook Center is indebted to Margie Van Meter Rolf and Sprint/United Telephone for providing us with the financial support to conduct an outstanding internship program this summer. The sponsoring institutions are impressed by the caliber of the students from the Ashbrook Center, and we are pleased that they have extended these positions to our Scholars. At present, we have Scholars placed in the Ohio Statehouse, Washington, D.C., Nashville, and the Vatican, Rome.

The reputation and influence of the Ashbrook Center will broaden considerably this year as our Deputy Director, Dr. Bradford Wilson, leaves to lecture on democracy at the International Judicial Institute in Moscow for the next nine months. Dr. Wilson is the recipient of the prestigious Fullbright Scholar Award for 1994-1995. Dr. Wilson’s teaching responsibility at the University will be most ably assumed by Dr. Ken Masugi.
