Kathy Meredith received Ashland University’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award during the 1998 Homecoming Festivities in October. She received her B.S. B.A. degree in Finance and Economics in 1990. She received her master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School of Public Management and Policy. Kathy has been recognized in Who’s Who of American Woman and in 2000 Notable American Women. She currently works in Washington, D.C. and is the Program Examiner for the Housing Branch Office of the Management and Budget (OMB) within the Executive Office of the President. OMB is the middle ground between public administration of federal programs at the departmental level and public policy-making level at the Presidential level.

Roger Beckett participated in the California-based Claremont Institute’s Publius Fellows Program this past summer. The Publius Fellows program is a summer resident seminar designed for college seniors and graduate students who aspire to write for newspapers and opinion journals. Through daily seminars and intensive writing assignments and critiques, Publius Fellows are schooled in the classics of American political thought and in the art of effective political writing. The program aims to foster constructive commentary on the important issues of our time, informed and moderated by an understanding of the philosophic and historical roots of American democracy. Roger received his B.A. in Political Science in 1996. He received his master’s degree in Education from The Ohio State University. He is currently the Director of Special Programs for the Ashbrook Center.

David Steele is the first Ashbrook Alumnus to run for federal elected office. Steele won in a three way Democratic primary for the 5th Congressional District in Northern Indiana. The district stretches across twenty counties in northwestern Indianapolis. He went on to be defeated in the November election. He graduated in 1992 and completed a M.A. in Government and International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is currently the assistant director for the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
